What Guidelines should I be aware of regarding Transportation?
- Students must meet the District Policy of 1.5 miles or more.
- Students should report to their assigned bus stop 10 minutes before the assigned bus time and wait until at least 10 minutes have passed the assigned time.
- Students in general education can get off the bus at 8 years old and in 3rd grade.
- Students with an IEP must be picked up by an adult unless an unsupervised form is approved on the IEP by Special Education.
How does a child get to a bus stop? Who is responsible to get the child to the bus stop?
The parent is responsible how the child gets to and from the bus stop. According to state education rules that are listed below it is the parent who must get child to the stop. No sidewalks in your neighbor does not warrant a closer stop. Bus stops can be up to ½ mile from the student home. Stops are centralized to accommodate students in the area.
How do I request a bus stop change or request a closer stop?
Fill out and submit this Change of Bus Stop Request form. You can submit the form for consideration. Filling out this form does not guarantee that the bus stop will be changed. Transportation will look at the location and see how many students are assigned and where they are coming from. Bus stops are centralized to accommodate students coming from different directions.
How do I get my child that is special needs an unsupervised bus stop?
There is a form that would be filled out by parent/guardian and submitted to special ed for approval.
How do I apply for an Alternate Stop other than my home for my child?
Fill out the Alternate Arrangement Form on our website @ Yonkerstransporation@yonkerspublicschools.org The deadline for the application is April 1. If you apply after April 1st deadline transportation is not guaranteed. After April 1st both the student address and alternate arrangement must be 1.5 or more from the school. If you don’t meet both qualifications you will be denied. Afterschool programs must apply by the April 1st deadline. After the deadline students will be placed according to a bus being in area and having a seat available. The Afterschool BOE partner must submit the application for the parent. If your child is in 12-month Special Needs program 2 applications must be filled. One for the Summer program and One for the New School Year.
If I believe the distance is wrong from my home to school what can I do?

If there is a two-hour delay what time should I have my child outside?
Early School hours 7:30 am, start 9:30 am

No. If Yonkers feels that it is unsafe to put buses/vans on the road to transport to Yonkers Public Schools then none of the vehicles contracted with the Yonkers Public School District will go out on that day.
What happens if there is a delayed opening?

First Days of School
-
What if my child's bus does not come
- The week of school buses generally run late.
- Drivers are stuck in traffic due to more drivers on the road.
- Drivers are learning their new route
- Drivers waiting on students
- School holding buses to make sure students are placed on correct vehicle. You should connect your child’s school if bus is late or the bus company and they can tell you how late the bus is running.
- Most buses are doubled with two schools. The early school sometimes detains the bus in the morning or in the afternoon causing the lateness.
