Mayor Mike Spano appointed Ms. Lorraine Lopez to the Yonkers Board of Education on May 22, 2025 to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Kevin Cacace.

Elected the first female Hispanic Yonkers City Councilmember in 1999, Ms. Lopez has served as a longtime Yonkers community advocate. For nearly ten years, Ms. Lopez served as the Special Assistant to the Mayor for Constituent Services, where she assisted constituents with various education, housing, quality of life and social services assistance.

Ms. Lopez has volunteered with numerous Yonkers non-profits that benefit Yonkers students, families and minorities, including the YMCA, Yonkers Alliance of Latino & Immigrant Services, D.A.R.E. Inc., and the Habitat for Humanities Family Selection Committee.

Currently, Ms. Lopez is a board member for the Hudson Valley Legal Services Executive Committee and for the Justice Center for the Hudson Valley.
