Ms. Elda Perez-Mejia, Principal
On May 30, 2024, Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. had the pleasure of announcing the leadership appointment of Elda Perez-Mejia as the Founding Principal of Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School, one of two new schools opening for the 2024-2025 school year.
Ms. Perez-Mejia is a veteran educator who most recently served as the principal of the Eugenio Maria de Hostos MicroSociety School. She has been an educator in the Yonkers Public Schools since 1993.
Throughout her career, Ms. Perez-Mejia has taken on numerous roles, including Title VII facilitator, Reading First Bilingual Literacy Coach, and Assistant Director of the YPS Bilingual Department. She has significantly improved student performance and maintained the Good Standing status of the Eugenio Maria de Hostos MicroSociety School for 12 years.
Ms. Perez-Mejia earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Pace University, a Master’s in Bilingual Education from Long Island University, and a Master’s in School and District Supervision from Fordham University. Her commitment to education and community support earned her the Yonkers Public Schools Administrator of the Year award in 2013-2014.
