Questions that were asked along the way....
-
Below are some questions that came up along the way while we were learning how to use Castle Learning. While technology is constantly evolving, some of the questions may prompt you to explore the program further!
Question 1: Is Spanish translation available in Castle Learning?
It seems that you have two options. You can activate the Google Translate feature when creating an assignment, then the students can have the option to have the questions translated in multiple languages.
Some questions are available in both Spanish and English. (I believe that is what you were looking at) Students must activate the option in their individual profiles. Then, both English and Spanish translation will be available to them.
Of course, I will have to go in and test it out but I just wanted you to have the information. Thank you for asking the question; that is how I learn!
Question 2: How do I view the assignments from the perspective of the student?
Question 3: How to students access the Self Study component that includes Regents preparation materials?
Please refer to the attached guide:
Castle Learning Regents Review Guide
Question 4: Can students access Castle Learning on their phones?
Yes, students can access Castle Learning by downloading the Clever app on their phones. The platform is user-friendly!
Question 5: How can we search for questions by level?
Under the Filter By option, make sure that the Levels and Topics boxes are both checked. (See Below).
Remember you can also use Keyword Search and use the drop-down menus to filter your results.
Question 6: Can I assign a Regents Exam?
Yes! After selecting the Assignments tab, choose "Create from Public Assignments", NOT "Create New Assignment".
Then select the following options by expanding the plus signs: Mathematics > Math > Castle Assignments > New York
Question 6B: How do I import part of a Regents?
You can import the entire Regents and then remove the questions that you don't want (See Question 6)
OR follow the directions below and select the questions that you would like to include:
Assignments>Create New>Name It>Public Assignments>Choose Course>Select Regents>+>Select your questions then assign! Don't forget to select your mode!
Question 6C: Is there a way to search for Regents questions by topic?
Unfortunately there is not a way to search for regents questions by topic. However you can use the keyword search section to search for questions. You can then filter the results to just regents questions. However when searching for keyword questions, the words themselves have to occur naturally within a question.
Question 7: Can teachers view students' Self Study progress?
Yes, in Reports or under Classes > Select Class > Sessions and Reports.
You can view basic information but it does not include detailed information. You can view the basics like title, score and session information.
Question 8: What does "Review Only" do?
This mode allows a student to review a completed assignment without being able to make any changes. It will still allow them to view the hints and reasons.
Question 9: How do I search for questions available in Spanish and English?
In the "Filter by" line, "Additional Criteria" must be checked off. After the last prompt, you will be able to check off, "Questions with Spanish Translations" (see below).
Question 10: What is Offline Mode?
Offline mode is for only regular multiple choice questions. Teachers have the ability to have the students put their answers on a scantron and then upload their answers to Castle.
(See below for a definition of each mode)
Question 11: What is a CR question?A CR question is a constructed response question that needs to be graded by the teacher.Question 12: How do I monitor online usage?Go to Reports > Assessment, Course Usage and Activity Tracking ReportsQuestion 13: How do I view individual Student assignments?
To view individual student assignments:
Reports> Assessment, Course Usage and Activity Tracking Reports> Choose course, single assignment, and single student.Question 14: How do I grade constructed responses?
To grade constructed responses:
Assignments> locate the assignment and click on the paper with the magnifying glass icon> Opens to Assignment Results> At the bottom you should see a blue link that says "Grade".
Question 15: Can a teacher add a sound file (MP3) to an assignment? There is a document titled "Detailed Steps" that includes all of the steps needed to write your own content and import it into an assignment. You can find this by clicking the Personal Content/Assessment Sets button on your home page. We also have a video tutorial that will walk you through this process. There is a Tutorials button in your upper right corner. Once you have saved the recording to a resource set, you can then add it to a question.
Question 16: Can questions and content be shared with teachers and/or students who are not on your roster?
Assignments that contain Personal Content Set questions CANNOT be shared with teachers outside of your own district. To share an assignment with another Castle Learning Online Teacher Account Holder, you will need to follow these simple steps: -From your teacher home page, click the ASSIGNMENTS link -Locate the assignment from your list of assignments (changing the course and folder as necessary) -Click the box to the left of the assignment name that you wish to share and a check mark should appear -Below the list of assignments is a SHARE link highlighted in blue and underlined -To share the assignment(s) you have checked, enter the login ID of the teacher who you wish to share the assignment(s) with -Once you have entered the teachers login ID, click the SHARE link. -That teacher will have a message on their teacher home page, below the information center, advising them of the shared assignment and will include directions on how to locate the shared assignment. To access these instructions, click the VIEW MESSAGES link. -Next, click the message subject ( It will be Highlighted and Underlined in BLUE ) -A box will appear that reads: AN ASSIGNMENT HAS BEEN SHARED WITH YOU -The information in that box will explain who the assignment is FROM, the ASSIGNMENT NAME, the COURSE and the ACTIVITY type. Make note of the COURSE, ASSIGNMENT NAME and ACTIVITY TYPE and the “Message” area, which will tell you where the assignment is located -Click the BACK TO HOME PAGE link NOW THE TEACHER MUST LOCATE THE ASSIGNMENT USING THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE MESSAGE. -Click the ASSIGNMENTS link on the Teacher Home Page -Change the course listed in the COURSE DROP DOWN so that the course listed in that drop down is the course where the assignment is located, according to the information noted from the MESSAGE -Select the **SHARED ASSIGNMENTS** folder -Be sure you are on the Assignments tab -The Assignment will appear in the list of assignments. From here the teacher can make changes to the assignment, move the assignment or assign it to their students as they would any other assignment. You can share the assignments so that other teachers can use them with their students.
QUESTION 17: Is it possible to generate a student report that includes all of their assignments?
You will want to pull up a scores report for that course. Here's how: -From your teacher homepage, click the Reports link. -Click Assessment and Course Usage and Activity Tracking Reports, then Teacher Assessments. -Choose the course. -Select All Assignments then select the date range using the calendars (these dates are by when the assignment was assigned). -Select Score. -Choose Students in Class and choose either one specific class or all classes. -Click create Report. QUESTION #4 Is it possible for a teacher to create an assignment with identical questions in both, English and Spanish? Spanish translations are currently available on some, but not all, Math, Social Studies, Biology/Living Environment, and Earth Science questions. On the question criteria (Add Questions) page, teachers should check the Additional Criteria box in the Filter by: line after they choose the appropriate course. Once the rest of the criteria is chosen by the teacher a check box will appear to check for Questions with Spanish Translations. The actual display of questions in Spanish or English is under the control of the student when working on assignments or sessions that they create themselves. On the student's home page, in the left menu bar, the student clicks "My Account" and then "Settings". They need to choose their language AND change the "Display questions in Spanish, if available" toggle to YES. Furthermore, if these questions are brought into the assignment, the print option SPANISH IF AVAILABLE will print only those questions that offer the Spanish translation, in Spanish.
Question 18: When generating any of the teacher assignment reports, we noticed that the report options appear at the top even when it's downloaded as a pdf. Is there any way to view a report without those options at the top? When downloading as a PDF it is taking the entire screen into consideration. This is why you are seeing that section. If there is an option to Export the report, you can export to Excel and you will not see the Report Options section.Question 19: What does the duplicate feature do?The DUPLICATE feature allows teachers to recreate, with just a few clicks, an exact replica of the original assignment. The duplicated assignment can then be assigned to your students as a RETAKE.
1. From your Teacher Home page, click the ASSIGNMENTS link
