Schools Closed Mon 3/16 & Tue 3/17 for Students & Staff. Central Office Open for Administrative Staff Only
YONKERS, NY –. Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin M. Quezada released the following, “There continues to be considerable uncertainty, confusion and fear around COVID-19 Coronavirus in our community as well as throughout Westchester County and the metropolitan area. These concerns are understandable. Your school district must serve as a safe haven for children to learn and thrive; that is our goal every day. Our staff also needs to be at ease to give their upmost professional instruction to students and provide food and facility maintenance service.
Today, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Yonkers Public Schools. Social distancing, handwashing and elbow bumps have become the new norm. Based on our concern for the well-being and health of our students and staff, the Yonkers Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, March 16th and 17th for all students and staff. Central Office will be open only for administrative staff. Although I understand the challenges and hardship on our families when schools are closed, it is necessary at this time.”
On Tuesday, based upon the information available, the District will re-evaluate the circumstances. It would be prudent for parents to prepare for school closings beyond Tuesday March 17.
