Mr. Don DeMatteo
Mr. DeMatteo is a high school Assistant Principal at Yonkers Montessori Academy. This is my 11th year at YMA and 15th year as an administrator. Prior to joining the YMA learning community, Mr. DeMatteo held the position of Assistant Director of Social Studies and Assistant Principal at Early College High School. Prior to becoming an administrator, Mr. DeMatteo taught Social Studies at Yonkers International Baccalaureate High School for over ten years.
Mr. DeMatteo was born and raised in the Park Hill section of the City of Yonkers, having attended parochial elementary school in Yonkers. He attended Manhattan College, majoring in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies. Mr. DeMatteo continued his education at Manhattan College earning Masters Degrees in Counseling Psychology and School Administration. Mr. DeMatteo holds NYS Certification as a Social Studies Teacher, School Administrator and District Administrator.
Mr. DeMatteo has been married since 2000 to Kathleen, a teacher at YMA. He is the father of a daughter, Alyson who is a Junior at The State University at Albany (SUNY).
Mr. DeMatteo's educational philosophy is based on the education of the whole child and helping to shape students into life long learners who contribute positively to society.
